Tempo Communications expands fiberTOOLs line with optical power meters, stabilized light sources

The test instruments complement Tempo’s optical fusion splicers and optical fiber cleavers to improve installation and maintenance of fiber-optic networks, according to the company.

Tempo Communications have expanded its fiberTOOLS portfolio with two families of optical power meters and several stabilized light sources. The test instruments complement Tempo’s optical fusion splicers and optical fiber cleavers to improve installation and maintenance of fiber-optic networks, according to the company.

The first family of optical power meters include the OPM510 and OPM520. The family is designed to work with all industry-standard connectors to measure optical powers down to the -65 dBm. The meters leverage an InGaAs detector that Tempo says maximizes sensitivity; filtered InGaAs capabilities measure high-powered optical signals. The optical power meters are applicable to single-mode and multimode fibers and feature calibrated wavelengths of 850 nm, 1300 nm, 1310 nm, 1490 nm, 1550 nm, and 1625 nm; they also support 270 Hz, 1 kHz, and 2-kHz tone detect.

The other optical power meter family targets the needs of premises technicians. The OPM210 and OPM220 micro optical power meters offer a measurement range of +10 to -70 dBm and a CATV range of +26 to -50 dBm. A visual fault locator (VFL) enables fault location. The micro optical power meters can be used with single-mode and multimode fibers and offer calibrated wavelengths of 850, 1300, 1310, 1490, 1550, and 1625 nm as well as 270 Hz, 1 kHz, and 2 kHz tone detect. An auto power-off feature is also included.

Meanwhile, the compact stabilized light sources can be used with all industry-standard connectors, Tempo asserts. They feature dual and triple lasers; out of band testing at 1625 nm and 1650 nm; 270 Hz, 1 Hz, and 2 Hz tone; and PC flat polish interface. Models include the SLS520, SLS525, SLS530, SLS535, and SLS536.

“The features and benefits of Tempo’s new OPM’s and Stabilized Light Sources are numerous,” said Keith Foord, fiber instruments product manager with Tempo Communications. “Technicians have a variety of options to ensure the installation and maintenance of fiber optic networks goes smoothly. They can feel confident in the results provides, knowing the fiber-optic cables are firing on all cylinders.”
