OZ Optics unveils multichannel electrically controlled variable attenuator

The OZ Optics describes the multichannel electrically controlled variable attenuator as compact and rugged, with low cost and high resolution, high attenuation range, and high power-handling capability when using a blocking technique.

OZ Optics Ltd. has announced a new line of rackmount test instruments for component and device testing. The OZ Optics describes the multichannel electrically controlled variable attenuator as compact and rugged, with low cost and high resolution, high attenuation range, and high power-handling capability when using a blocking technique.

The attenuator can control optical power for up to 32 independent channels. The unit will accommodate not only telecommunication wavelengths, but also wavelengths from 350 nm to 2050 nm. It is suitable for applications involving single-mode, polarization maintaining, or multimode fibers. Users can access or remotely control the unit through a PC. A built-in power meter and a power stabilization function enable that sets and maintains output power stability, even in the face of input power fluctuations, ensure reliable and repeatable test results, OZ says.

The multichannel electrically controlled variable attenuator can be used for bit-error-rate testing, troubleshooting receivers and other active optical components, simulating long-distance fiber transmission, power meter linearity checks, power setting, and the design of optical transmitter/receiver circuitry. It also offers up to a 60-dB dynamic range (for SM and PM fiber applications) and is housed in a 19-inch (48.3 cm) 3U rack frame.
