Micro Chips, Macro Value: SUNA's 5T-based O/E Solutions powering the AI Future
Suzhou Suna Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. (SUNA), established in 2014, is dedicated to the research and manufacturing of optoelectronic chips. The core products include microlenses and silicon capacitors which are widely used in fields such as optical communications, consumer electronics, automotive electronics, and high-performance computing. The company boasts a complete, advanced, and independent chip R&D and manufacturing production line, including over 5,000 square meters of ultra-clean rooms and more than 400 sets of advanced equipment, fully covering the entire chip manufacturing chain. This will significantly accelerate product development and effectively ensure stable product quality and large-scale delivery.
Microlens
The wafer-level microlenses for optical communication are exquisitely designed for the burgeoning AI and cloud data center optical module markets. Employing advanced semiconductor microfabrication processes, they create high-precision optical surfaces on minuscule chip sizes. Their surfaces are polished to a nanometer-level smoothness, allowing for the most precise manipulation of light propagation.
Inside the optical module, they closely collaborate with lasers and detectors, contributing to the important task of optical path shaping. When the divergent beam emitted by the laser enters the microlens, it can accurately collimate the beam, making it a light beam with extremely high parallelism to ensure efficient signal transmission. When the optical signal reaches the detector, the microlens can converge the light to improve the light signal reception sensitivity of the detector.
With its outstanding technology and stable performance, SUNA optical communication lenses have successfully served more than 140 domestic and foreign optical module enterprises. Globally, more than 95% of optical module enterprises have reached cooperation with SUNA. In the optical communication sector, SUNA optical communication lens products command a market share exceeding 60%, firmly establishing itself as the industry paragon. Additionally, SUNA has a production base in Thailand, which is set to operate in Q2 2025. This facility will enable the overseas mass production and shipment.
Silicon capacitor and IPD
Silicon capacitor is a high-performance passive device manufactured by semiconductor lithography process. Compared with traditional multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCC), silicon capacitors have the advantages of small size, high processing precision, stable capacitance, low equivalent series resistance (ESR) and low equivalent series inductance (ESL). These features enable devices in high-speed optical communication networks to achieve higher performance, higher reliability and miniaturization.
SUNA has been involved in the demand mining and development of silicon capacitors since 2021. After four years of development, SUNA now have the ability to design, manufacture, test and package provided in different packaging formats the products in-house. SUNA silicon capacitor product line is mainly composed of three types of products: Horizontal Silicon Capacitor, Vertical Silicon Capacitor and Integrated Passive Devices (IPD). Horizontal capacitor is more and more widely used as broadband coupling capacitor in high-speed signal lines of optical transceivers, with 67GHz series on the shelf and 150GHz series to be released in 25Q2. Vertical Silicon Capacitors are available in the form of a single capacitor and capacitor array, which can be used as decoupling capacitor in OSA of optical transceivers or in charging circuit for ToF LIDAR. A wide range of products with different sizes and capacitance values are provided. IPD products integrate silicon capacitors, resistors and signal lines into a single unit, eliminating the need for additional mounting and wire bonding of discrete passive components. As the single channel speed of optical modules increases year by year, IPD products as a next-generation of EML substrate solution to replace aluminum nitride (AlN) ceramic substrates are receiving increasing attention.
