Jabil Photonics offers new generation of CFP2 DCO ECO coherent optical transceivers

Jabil Inc. (NYSE: JBL) announced last week at ECOC 2022 that it has developed a new generation of CFP2 DCO ECO Coherent Transceiver. The modules, which are based on Nokia’s CSTAR200+ silicon photonics optical engine, are generally available and in customer testing.

“We are pleased to integrate Nokia’s CSTAR-200+ optical engine as part of our complete coherent transceiver solution,” said K.W. Hoo, general manager of Jabil Photonics. “Together, we can accelerate the pace of technology advancements while bringing industry-leading optical products to market faster on behalf of customers worldwide.”

The company says its second-generation 100G/200G modules comply with the most recent communications standards requirements and minimize power consumption thanks to use of the most recent digital signal processing (DSP) and optical-engine technologies. Jabil expects the modules to find use in support of 5G, metro networking, and data center interconnect applications.

Jabil unveiled its first-generation CFP2-DCO optical transceiver in 2020 (see “Jabil Photonics trials generally available CFP2-DCO transceiver over unamplified links”). The company collaborated with Elenion, which developed the CSTAR platform before being acquired by Nokia, on that device as well (see "Jabil AOC Technologies jumps into coherent 100G/200G CFP2-DCO optical transceivers").
