Broadex Technologies (Shenzhen Stock Exchange 300548) says it has begun sampling 400-Gbps QSFP-DD DR4 transceivers based on the company’s silicon photonics (SiPh) platform. The SiPh platform integrates multiple active and passive optoelectronic components, leverages a 3D packaging technology, and enables incorporation of 7-nm DSP chips, says the company.

The company says the modules are packaged with a proprietary low-loss optical coupling technique that enables excellent signal quality and channel consistency. The QSFP-DD optical transceivers also feature a bit error rate of 10-9 without FEC and TDECQ as low as 0.6 dB. Broadex foresees data center operators will use the modules to address increasing bandwidth demand as they upgrade their networks from 100 Gbps to 400 Gbps.

“Broadex has been working with industry-leading partners for the past year to develop a 400-Gbps SiPh transceiver that offers superb product performance and improved yield to enable high volume production,” commented Dr. Wei Zhu, CEO of Broadex Technologies. “I am glad that results obtained so far, including live interoperability tests, indicate that we are on the right path to provide data center customers with a very cost-effective product to support their growing bandwidth demand.

“400-Gbps EML-based solutions have been challenged to meet the volume expectations, which has become a constraint on the evolution of data center networks toward higher bandwidth interconnects,” he continued. With the development of SiPh technology and its inherent potential in power consumption and volume manufacturing, we expect our SiPh modules would become the preferred solution.

Broadex expect to begin volume production of the 400G transceivers in the second half of this year.
