MACOM adds MATA-05817 and MATA-38134 transimpedance amplifiers covering 100 Gbps to 800 Gbps

March 19, 2020
MACOM Technology Solutions Inc. has unveiled a pair of transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs) for use in QSFP, QSFP-DD, and OSFP optical transceivers ranging from 100-Gbps DR1 to 800-Gbps DR8 and FR8.

MACOM Technology Solutions Inc. has unveiled a pair of transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs) for use in QSFP, QSFP-DD, and OSFP optical transceivers ranging from 100-Gbps DR1 to 800-Gbps DR8 and FR8. The TIAs, which include the MATA-05817 and the quad MATA-38134, are available in flip-chip and wire-bonding packaging.

The MATA-05817 is designed to deliver a noise performance less than 2 µA RMS typical to support bandwidth up to 35 GHz. MACOM says the TIA supports high throughput optical data links in a very low power profile. The MATA-05817 is intended for 50G, 100G, 200G, and 400G designs using multilevel modulation such as PAM4.

The MATA-38134 is a quad 26/53-Gbaud linear PAM4 TIA with automatic gain and integrated AGC loop. The TIA consumes very low power, according to the company, and is primarily targeted for single-mode fiber applications. The MATA-38134 features 500-µm anode-to-anode spacing, which means two will fit within the QSFP-DD form factor to enable 800-Gbps optical modules.

The two TIAs include RSSI for photo-alignment and power monitoring and I2C control of bandwidth, output amplitude, peaking, LOS, gain, and other parameters.
