EFFECT Photonics develops Pico Tunable Laser Assembly for QSFP28 100G ZR coherent pluggable modules

EFFECT Photonics says it will use OFC 2023 in San Diego to launch the Pico Tunable Laser Assembly (pTLA). The pTLA is targeted toward QSFP28 100G ZR coherent pluggable module designs.

The pTLA will operate at commercial- and industrial-temperature (C-temp and I-temp) operating ranges. According to the EFFECT Photonics website, the low-power device offers full C-band tunability and narrow linewidth performance. The pTLA features a command interface compliant with OIF-ITLA-MSA-01.3 as well as supply of on-board calibration data, controlling firmware, and hermetic laser assembly packaging.

The pTLA will help coherent 100ZR pluggables achieve the combination of performance, small size, power consumption, and cost that will enable such modules to gain traction in the marketplace, EFFECT Photonics asserts. “Today’s operators need a network edge aggregation strategy that offers the best combination of capacity, cost-effectiveness, and performance to evolve network access effectively, and 100G coherent pluggable optics offer just that,” explained Roberto Marcoccia, CEO of EFFECT Photonics. “EFFECT Photonics’ new Pico Tunable Laser Assembly will be the only purpose-designed tunable laser assembly to serve this emerging market, helping to easily scale up network edge aggregation capacity and benefit from coherent technology.”

EFFECT Photonics will discuss the new pTLA as well as the rest of its product range during exhibit hours March 7-9 at OFC 2023.
