Coherent offers 2x1000-mW dual-chip pump laser module for amplification applications

Feb. 16, 2023
The company asserts the dual-chip pump laser modules will enable a new class of optical amplifiers and amplified ROADM line cards.

Coherent Corp. (Nasdaq: COHR) says it will show what it asserts is the first dual-chip pump laser module with up to 1000 mW of output power per fiber in a 10-pin butterfly package. The module is targeted at amplification requirements, including EDFAs.

The company asserts the dual-chip pump laser modules will enable a new class of optical amplifiers and amplified ROADM line cards. Such implementations will feature greater bandwidth, functionality, and transmission reach than previous generations, Coherent adds.

The dual-chip pump laser modules are semi-cooled and use what Coherent states are highly reliable laser diodes that are available in a range of operating power levels up to 1000 mW per fiber. The modules support the flexibility of assignable output power to each fiber.

“What is uniquely differentiated about the new Coherent dual-chip pump laser module is that it embeds two next-generation high-power pump laser diodes in a small-form-factor 10-pin butterfly package,” said Dr. Richard Smart, senior vice president, ROADM products, at Coherent. “Coherent was first to market with dual-chip pump laser modules in 2014, and we continue to show our advanced technology leadership by achieving the highest power in the smallest form factor across our pump laser module products.”

Coherent will display the modules as well as other new offerings at OFC 2023 in San Diego, March 7-9, in Booth 3815.
