Arrayed Fiberoptics offers MJC fiber connector as more robust alternative to MPO connectors
Arrayed Fiberoptics has unveiled the MJC fiber connector, a multi-fiber connector that the company asserts offers longer life than conventional MPO connectors. The MJC features adjustable spring tension, which Arrayed Fiberoptics says enables longer life with less chance of connector damage.
The company says that the fixed spring force of conventional MPO fiber connectors make their guide holes prone to damage and wear by the stainless-steel guide pin. The patent-pending MJC features a pair of springs and a slider that controls the spring force. When the slider is slid back, the springs are loosened and the lateral movement of MT ferrule is flexible. This state enables the guide pin to insert into the guide hole without damaging it when the connector is inserted. Once the connector has been plugged in, the technician moves the slider forward, locking the guide pin in place.
The approach improves the mating life of the MJC over the conventional MPO by at least 10X, Arrayed Fiberoptics states. The MJC fiber connector can support both contact and non-contact applications; in the latter, mating life is improved by at least 1000X, the company says. In applications that require physical mating, the MJC also offers 2.3X smaller variation in insertion loss during repeated mating, according to the company.
