BSNL chooses Tejas Networks for pan-India router network upgrade

April 4, 2023
The technology developer says the project will require it to supply, install, and commission more than 13,000 access and aggregation routers.

Tejas Networks (BSE: 540595, NSE: TEJASNET) says it has received a Rs 696 crores advance purchase order from BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.) to supply TJ1400 series routers to upgrade BSNL’s pan-India IP/MPLS based access and aggregation network (MAAN).

The technology developer says the project will require it to supply, install, and commission more than 13,000 access and aggregation routers. BSNL seeks to create a converged multi-service packet network via the network enhancement project.

Tejas says it won the contract in competition against what it called “top-tier global vendors” through an open tender. After being technically shortlisted, Tejas submitted the lowest commercial bid, the company says.

“We are delighted to win this prestigious contract, which is the single largest order we have received till date in our company,” commented Sanjay Nayak, managing director and CEO of Tejas Networks. “We look forward to partnering with BSNL to create a unified, flexible and scalable IP/MPLS network that will cater to growing data traffic from its full range of services, including mobile (2G/3G/4G/5G), fiber broadband, voice over IP, WiFi, and enterprise data services. It provides us an excellent opportunity to deploy, at scale, our carrier routing products and establish our world-class capabilities in the critical routing technology area.”

“It’s a proud moment for us to be selected as the first Indian company to supply its indigenously designed and field-hardened routing products for BSNL’s nationwide MAAN network,” said Arnob Roy, COO and executive director of Tejas Network. Roy also said the win should reinforce the company’s position as a leading telecom and networking equipment vendor capable of designing and delivering complex, high-availability mission critical networks.
