South Korea’s SK Telink upgrades Pacific submarine network with Ciena
South Korean network operator SK Telink will upgrade its submarine network connections between Seoul, Hong Kong, and Los Angeles with equipment from Ciena (NYSE: CIEN), the technology supplier reports. SK Telink will leverage elements of Ciena’s Adaptive IP portfolio to create a converged packet network (see “Preparing for the Age of 5G with Adaptive IP Technology”).
The network operator will deploy Ciena’s 6500 Packet Transport System (PTS) as well as Manage, Control and Plan domain controller to create a high-speed packet transport infrastructure with automated control of lifecycle operations.
SK Telink is an ICT service company that provides wired/wireless telecommunications and various related services. “Our customers are consuming data at a breakneck speed and to keep up, we deployed Ciena to build one of the first packet-based transport networks in a transpacific route to reinforce our commitment to world-class telecom service. Our goal of being a forward-thinking and international operator will be realized with the technical expertise of Ciena,” commented Jeongyeol Lee, director of ICT Infra Headquarters, SK Telink.
