Ekinops touts first 10G business access market win

June 2, 2020
The deal, a seven-figure contract, comes from a European Tier 1 service provider.

EKINOPS (Euronext Paris - FR0011466069 – EKI) says it has landed the first major contract for its recently introduced 10G-capable Ethernet access devices (EADs) and routers. The deal, a seven-figure contract, comes from “a European Tier 1 service provider” that Ekinops did not further identify.

The customer will use the new 10G equipment, alongside additional Ekinops technology, to create a communications infrastructure for a “major” national security agency Ekinops also did not further identify. The customer will install Ekinops hardware in several data centers across the country the security agency covers. The systems will manage keys and security policies while offering both high availability and protection from potential attacks.

"This project demonstrates that our solutions can successfully answer the demanding challenges of major national government agencies," said Philippe Moulin, COO of access products and services at Ekinops. "The key here is our capacity to deliver a high-throughput, completely integrated multi-function access solution. We are proud to have gained the level of trust required by the service provider and the end-user for this very high-profile project."

In addition to the Ekinops 10G routers and VPN gateways, the customer will use “a selection of existing solutions” for small and medium size enterprise branches. The technology all runs on the company’s OneOS6 middleware.

"The 10-Gbps access market is a segment with few actors and a high price tag. We have identified this segment as an opportunity for Ekinops to gain market share with Tier 1 service providers as it requires transport and access know-how. Our offering is differentiated with a high performance-over-price ratio which explains why our new 10G routers and Ethernet access devices are already a success with significant volumes shipped," added Didier Brédy, CEO of Ekinops.

This is the second "first time" contract Ekinops has announced in recent weeks. It earlier revealed that it had made its first sale of OTN platforms, after acquiring the line from Padtec (see "Ekinops touts first OTN switch contract win" and "Ekinops entering OTN field via Padtec technology acquisition").
