Comcast Business wins Region 1 DISN Ethernet gateway contract from DISA

Comcast Business says it has received a 10-year contract from the United States’ Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) to create Commercial Ethernet Gateways that will provide Ethernet connections to the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN).

Comcast Business says it has received a 10-year contract from the United States’ Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) to create Commercial Ethernet Gateways that will provide Ethernet connections to the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) in the Northeastern U.S. The business arm of the U.S. cable MSO will supply Ethernet virtual private line (EVPL) services to fulfill the contract, which is worth $9.3 million.

DISA provides enterprise network and IT infrastructure to support the worldwide requirements of the Department of Defense. The contract is part of a DISA initiative to convert its 17,000 legacy, point-to-point public switched telephone network (PSTN) circuits to Ethernet connections, an effort the Department of Defense was directed to initiate in May 2016. Comcast Business will enable this transition in Region 1, the Northeastern U.S. Overall, the initiative covers 12 regions, which comprise the 48 contiguous states and the District of Columbia.
