Comcast Business looks to extend fiber network footprint in Virginia

The company says the network will support a range of services for large businesses and small at transmission rates from 1.2 Gbps to 100 Gbps.

Comcast Business says it plans to spend $3 million to expand its fiber network infrastructure in Charlottesville, Chesterfield, Fredericksburg, Reston, Sterling, and Woodbridge, VA, by the end of this year. The company says the network will support a range of services for large businesses and small at transmission rates from 1.2 Gbps to 100 Gbps.

The business services arm of cable MSO Comcast says will extend its reach by more than 250 businesses and organizations, to whom it can market such services as business WiFi, cybersecurity technology, 4G LTE backup, and business TV, as well as site-to-site connectivity.

"Capacity, network performance and security are critical factors in doing business today. With Comcast's latest fiber-rich expansion in Virginia, more local businesses will now have access to additional technology service options that will help them to be more successful and outpace their competition," said Dan Carr, regional vice president of Comcast's Beltway Region. "We're proud to continue to make significant investments across Virginia that increase the availability of our multi-gigabit Ethernet services and help customers meet the demands and capacity needs required of next-generation technology."
