Uniti offers up to 400G Wave Lease service

Fiber network services provider Uniti Group Inc. (NASDAQ: UNIT) now offers a “Wave Lease” services on portions of its Florida network. The services leverages open line system to enable customers to buy and use their own transponders. Uniti will offer both 100G and 400G Wavelength Services and multiple-terabit Spectrum Services in this manner, with plans to roll out the capability nationwide.

Uniti is using Ciena’s RLS technology to offer C+L band capabilities for both Spectrum and 100G-400G traditional Wavelength Services (see "Ciena offers 8180 Coherent Networking Platform, 6500 Reconfigurable Line System to aid fiber network densification efforts"). The initial routes run between Tampa and Miami on physically diverse paths, and provide multi-terabit add/drop capability in other Florida markets such as Orlando, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, and Daytona Beach.  Extensions to Atlanta and to cable-landing stations in Jacksonville are also available.

“Our Wave Lease product provides a high-capacity, flexible bandwidth solution with a more efficient cost structure than traditional waves and less operational complexity than dark fiber,” said Greg Ortyl, president of Wholesale & Strategic Accounts at Uniti Group. “Although we already offer wavelengths and dark fiber solutions as part of our product portfolio, we are expecting significant growth from our Wave Lease product in the coming years.”

Uniti expects to see live traffic from these services on the Florida routes by the end of this year. The company plans to deploy similar systems along other long-haul routes within its 123,000-route-mile national network over the next several quarters.
