NEC deploys submarine cable for BSNL

The submarine network links Chennai, India, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands (A&N Islands). NEC says it manufactured the cable and provided technical assistance during the turnkey implementation.

NEC Corp., through its NEC Corp. India (NEC India) subsidiary, has completed the deployment of a submarine cable for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL). The submarine network links Chennai, India, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands (A&N Islands). NEC says it manufactured the cable and provided technical assistance during the turnkey implementation.

The submarine cable covers approximately 2,300 km and supports the transmission of 100-Gbps wavelengths. The undersea cable system lands in Chennai, Port Blair, and the islands of Havelock, Little Andaman (Hutbay), Car Nicobar, Kamorta, the Great Nicobar Islands, Long Island, and Rangat (see illustration above). In addition to support of broadband services provision to residents and businesses, the submarine cable is expected to aid educational institutions.
