FiberLight taps Fujitsu Network Communications for fiber-optic network upgrade

July 14, 2020
The U.S. fiber network service provider will use the technology to upgrade its fiber-optic network to accommodate wavelengths of 100 Gbps and greater.

Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. says it has supplied its Fujitsu 1FINITY platform and Virtuora Network Control Solution to FiberLight, LLC. The U.S. fiber network service provider is using the technology to upgrade its fiber-optic network to accommodate wavelengths of 100 Gbps and greater.

FiberLight is an existing Fujitsu customer, having architected its 14,000-route-mile fiber network with Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 9500 packet optical networking platform (see "FiberLight deploys Fujitsu's FLASHWAVE 9500 in Texas regional network" and "FiberLight turns up first 100G link in Texas"). The communications technology provider says began deliveries of elements from the 1FINITY line, including 1FINITY T300/T310 Transport and 1FINITY L100 Lambda series blades, last year. FiberLight has used the systems in networks in Texas and Oklahoma, where the infrastructure now has the ability to support transmission rates up to 400 Gbps. FiberLight also will use Fujitsu’s Virtuora PD for network planning and design. The application provides a representation of the fiber network topology, models optical performance, and designs optical circuits in real time, says Fujitsu.

“At FiberLight, we have more than 20 years of dedicated experience designing, engineering, and optimizing large-scale fiber networks,” said Jay Anderson, chief engineer, FiberLight. “This enhancement of our network with the Fujitsu 1FINITY platform not only supports our mission of building high-capacity, custom fiber networks that ignite digital transformation, it also helps drive greater speed, reliability, and lasting value for customers and partners throughout our Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Corpus Christi, Laredo, McAllen, and Oklahoma markets.”
