Eurofiber inks frame agreement with Nokia for European fiber network expansion

The technology company says it will provide DWDM and data center switching elements as well as assist in what it called “multiple other areas.”

Nokia says it has landed a frame agreement with Eurofiber Group to support the open network infrastructure operator’s expansion plans in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany. The technology company says it will provide DWDM and data center switching elements as well as assist in what it called “multiple other areas.”

The fiber network upgrade process has already begun, with initial optical networks in deployment in the south and north of France. Nokia says it also has begun to install a DWDM city network in Germany for the Berlin based joint venture Vattenfall-Eurofiber. The nationwide DWDM network in Belgium also will be upgraded. Meanwhile, the Eurofiber Cloud Infra unit's DCspine selected SR Linux from Nokia as their switching platform, specifically Nokia's 7220 IXR data center hardware platforms.

“Eurofiber has an ambitious growth agenda in Western Europe,” commented Eric Kuisch, COO of Eurofiber Group. “A fully integrated high-capacity DWDM network and future-proof, highly secure data center equipment are main technological enablers to realize these ambitions. We are looking forward to partner with Nokia in providing our customers with the highest quality available.”

“Nokia is proud to add Eurofiber as a customer,” added Jan van Tetering, senior vice president Europe at Nokia. “We are determined to serve Eurofiber Group and its affiliates with our strong portfolio and presence in the four countries where they operate and help them expand their Open Networks’ footprint. This frame agreement is a solid foundation for our joint growth business ambition in Europe, sharing the same values to operate in an ethical, sustainable and secure way.”
