April 11, 2005 Suwanee, GA and Holmdel, NJ -- ARRIS, a global provider of high-speed data, video, and telephony systems and equipment, and Amedia Networks, a provider of Ethernet ultra-broadband platforms for "triple play" applications, have jointly entered into an agreement whereby the two companies will develop technical and commercial initiatives, and whereby Amedia's QoStream products will be globally marketed as integral components of ARRIS's Ethernet optical access network product offering.
"After testing Amedia's Premises Gateway products in our labs, we found them to be, as advertised, a great match for what many operators are asking for - particularly those in international markets," remarks Kevin Neely, product manager of next generation access networks for ARRIS.
According to a press release, Amedia's QoStream Premises Gateway allows carriers to offer Voice over IP (VoIP) services without requiring subscribers to change their existing telephone sets. Traffic can be allocated in blocks of 1 Mbit/sec up to 100 Mbit/sec, and assigned to multiple VLANs, each with multiple classes of service, to enable a range of service (QoS) options. These capabilities make the platform suitable for delivering bandwidth intensive IP Video services including HDTV. The platform is available in both indoor and hardened outdoor versions, and complies with IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet standard requirements.
