Nokia offers SaaS options for its Fixed Networks platforms
Nokia says it now offers applications across its Fixed Network platform portfolio on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) basis. The approach, delivered via a usage-based subscription, can lower cost of ownership by up to 25%, the company asserts.
The applications include the Altiplano Access Controller and WiFi Cloud Controller. Other options include operational tools for automated activation of end-user fiber modems, predictive care, and network build and management.
Metronet and LUS Fiber have already signed up for such subscriptions, according to the company. Nokia says it hosts the applications, including the set-up, monitoring, maintenance, and updates.
“SaaS gets operators started quickly. No special IT set-up means reduced upfront deployment costs, and in a highly competitive world, operation efficiency is key to both high-quality customer service and business profitability,” commented Sandy Motley, president, Fixed Networks at Nokia.
The company stresses the flexibility of the SaaS model. “Operators can tailor the subscription package choosing the service-level agreements and levels of support to meet their operational needs,” Motley explained. “They can deploy different Nokia SaaS instances for use in production, lab testing, pilots, or development.”
“Being able to opt out of running software on costly, complex, on-premise infrastructure is a big advantage for operators. Furthermore, a SaaS model means more flexibility and an easier path to delivering new services,” said Julie Kunstler, chief analyst at Omdia, via a Nokia press release.
