TELUS taps Ekinops for virtualized access network functions
Ekinops (Euronext Paris - FR0011466069) says it has won a contract from Canadian telecommunications services provider TELUS to deploy network function virtualization (NFV) and software-defined network (SDN) capabilities to support business services delivery. Ekinops will use technology from its 2017 acquisition of NFV company OneAccess (see “Ekinops buys OneAccess for NFV expertise, access to key service providers”).
TELUS will leverage the Ekinops ONE2501 data router. The platform leverages OneOS6, the Ekinops modular software offering that enables a variety of built-in software services that can be activated remotely and on-demand. TELUS will have not only an SD-WAN-ready, carrier-grade, and multi-service business data router but one that reduces the service provider's environmental footprint, Ekinops asserts.
"Delivering the connectivity and quality network experience our customers have come to expect requires a SDN strategy that implements access and optical products that are both interoperable and open," said Walter Miron, director, technology strategy, SDN and Business Solutions DevOps at TELUS. "Ekinops's collaboration and versatility allows us to enhance our networks in an innovative and scalable way that reduces our environmental footprint and scales our total cost of ownership."
"Our work with TELUS illustrates Ekinops's value to service providers in giving them both freedom and control, together with a host of cost savings and operational efficiency gains," added Kevin Antill, Ekinops's group vice president of sales for North America. "We are extremely pleased to be working alongside this major tier one operator in North America."
