Coherent’s 200G Differential Electro-absorption Modulator Laser (D-EML) solves some of the main challenges for 800G, 1.6T, and 3.2T transceiver design: electro-optical signal integrity, crosstalk, and power consumption. D-EML has a differential modulator that fully utilizes the output capability of a differential driver. This doubles the modulated optical power, thus lowering transceiver power consumption for the same optical signal. A differential modulator design and on-chip termination network minimizes crosstalk and creates optimized electrical channels. This enhances the performance margin and reduces the need for signal pre-conditioning, reducing transceiver power consumption.
JUDGE’S COMMENT: “D-EML should help reduce power consumption for upcoming 1.6 Tbps deployments.”
