Finland’s Valoo taps Nokia for XGS-PON

April 17, 2023
The new fiber to the home (FTTH) network will connect 200,000 homes in and around 30 cities by the end of 2026.

Nokia reveals that it has launched an XGS-PON deployment project for Valoo (Adola Oy) in Finland. The technology provider is supplying central office fiber access nodes as well as its Altiplano broadband access controller. The new fiber to the home (FTTH) network will connect 200,000 homes in and around 30 cities by the end of 2026.

Valoo, which is wholly owned by independent infrastructure equity fund DIF Capital Partners, is in the midst of an FTTH footprint expansion in Finland. The company also has announced plans to offer internet services as well as make its network available to third-party operators.

“With Nokia’s advanced Lightspan multi-gig fiber broadband solution we can provide our customers the best possible technology there is in the fiber world. The solution enables us to deliver network connection to multiple customers using the same fiber and accelerate internet connections up to 20 gigabit and beyond,” commented Tommi Linna, CEO at Valoo. “With Nokia’s new Altiplano controller we can bring advanced open access network solution to Finnish market.

“And last but not least: Nokia’s multi-gig fiber has a 95% smaller carbon footprint thanks to its energy efficiency gains compared to traditional point-to-point solutions,” Linna added. “I couldn’t be more proud that we are the first fiber company in Finland executing Nokia’s multi-gig fiber to customers – starting this spring.”

Nokia’s Lightspan optical line terminal (OLT) family includes the Nokia 7360-FX Lightspan series as well as Nokia Lightspan MF software-defined fiber access nodes. They provide an upgrade path from 10-Gbps XGS-PON to 25G PON.
