LiveOak Fiber to acquire fiber networks in two Georgia counties from Alma Telephone

LiveOak Fiber, a regional broadband service provider, says it has agreed to acquire fiber network assets in Georgia’s Glynn and Camden counties from Alma Telephone Company (ATC) Broadband.

LiveOak Fiber, a regional broadband service provider, says it has agreed to acquire fiber network assets in Georgia’s Glynn and Camden counties from Alma Telephone Company (ATC) Broadband, based in Alma, Georgia. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

ATC had built the fiber infrastructure to provide services to medical facilities and business in the two counties. However, LiveOak Fiber says it plans to use the networks as a springboard toward providing services to residents in the two southeast coastline counties as well. Such services will start at 500 Mbps and go up to 10 Gbps, include premium managed WiFi with no contracts and no data caps.

ATC will retain what was termed “a portion” of their customers and interests in the space. “Over the past several years, ATC has recognized the need for reliable residential broadband services in Glynn County and Camden County,” says Teddy Solomon, CEO of ATC Broadband. “This acquisition is a boon to the community. We are confident that LiveOak Fiber has the local resources, experience, and enthusiasm to take our network and expand it in a way that ensures both communities gain access to the best possible broadband experience.”

LiveOak Fiber received its initial funding last July (see "Broadband services startup LiveOak Fiber targets Georgia, Florida with initial funding"). “The acquisition of this ATC Broadband fiber asset reinforces our commitment to serve the Golden Isles and enables LiveOak Fiber to expedite our timeline for buildout in Glynn County and expands our service area to include the businesses and residents of Camden County. We will build upon the great work of ATC by offering the highest-quality internet services and speeds in the region, coupled with superior local customer service,” added Jody Craft, president at LiveOak Fiber.
