Kansas Office of Broadband Development, AT&T target Sedgwick County for FTTP
The Kansas Office of Broadband Development says that it will partner with AT&T on a fiber to the premises (FTTP) deployment in the state’s Sedgwick County. The organization will supply $2.2 million, matched by $8.2 million from AT&T, to pass more than 10,000 locations with FTTP. The project is contingent upon the signing of a final contract between the state and AT&T.
Planning and engineering for the FTTP deployment will begin once the contract is signed. The roll out is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. AT&T will use the fiber network to offer internet access at rates up to 5 Gbps.
“Bringing fast and reliable AT&T Fiber to Kansas communities like this shows how we’re helping to close the digital divide through public-private partnerships,” said AT&T Kansas President Jim Jamison. “This decision from the Kansas Office of Broadband Development helps to bring the fastest and most cost-effective long-term internet solution to Sedgwick County.”
The AT&T Fiber network already passes 275,000 locations in Kansas. The company says it has invested nearly $1.1 billion in its wireless and wireline networks in the state from 2017-2021.
