TDS offers 8-gig fiber broadband to more than 75 U.S. communities

The new services will pair with a 2-gig service, launched last fall, that had been the operator’s previous top tier.

TDS Telecom says it now offers up to 8-gig symmetrical fiber broadband services in more than more than 75 communities across its U.S. fiber to the premises (FTTP) footprint. The new services will pair with a 2-gig service, launched last fall, that had been the operator’s previous top tier.

The service also will be available to new customers as TDS builds out its FTTP footprint in Idaho, Montana, North Carolina, Washington, and Wisconsin. TDS will offer the 8-gig tier to both residential and business customers. The company foresees the high-speed offering as appealing to “broadband super users, specifically those who use photo or editing programs, stream content, and play mid-to-high-end games.”

“We are committed to being the fastest provider in our fiber communities,” said Andrew Petersen, senior vice president of corporate affairs at TDS. “Our rollout of speeds up to 8-gig shows how powerful and flexible fiber-optic technology is.”
