Lumen to expand Quantum Fiber multigigabit broadband footprint

Lumen Technologies (NYSE: LUMN), having revealed the first three markets in which it plans to add a multigigabit service tier to its Quantum Fiber broadband offering this past August, has announced plans to extend such availability to another 27 markets. The new service promises symmetrical transmission rates of up to 8 Gbps.

The 30 markets total now on the multigigabit list include Albuquerque, NM; Boise, ID; Bozeman, MT; Cheyenne, WY; Colorado Springs and Denver, CO; Des Moines, IA; Fort Meyers, Ocala, Orlando, and Tallahassee, FL; Las Vegas, NV; Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN; Omaha, NE; Phoenix and Tucson, AZ; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle and Spokane, WA. Of these, Denver, Minneapolis, and Seattle were called out in Lumen’s August announcement (see “Lumen unveils 8-Gbps tier for Quantum Fiber”).

Maps of where Lumen plans to roll out fiber in these markets can be found on the company’s website. Meanwhile, the multigigabit roll out is already underway. "Thousands of residents now have access to multi-gig in certain areas of Denver, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Seattle, and Tucson," according to Guy Gunther, vice president, general manager of Consumer Fiber Markets – East Region at Lumen. "We are committed to building XGS-PON, and we will be enabling more areas with the pace expected to accelerate in the back half of 2023."
