Canadian Fiber Optics targets FTTH expansion in Alberta

Nov. 7, 2022
The services, offered under the Northern Lights Fiber (NLF) brand, will feature the fastest residential internet rates offered in rural Canada, CFOC asserts.

Alberta-based broadband services provider Canadian Fiber Optics Corp. (CFOC) says it plans to extend its fiber to the home (FTTH) footprint to High Prairie, Alberta. The services, offered under the Northern Lights Fiber (NLF) brand, will feature the fastest residential internet rates offered in rural Canada, CFOC asserts. The company also plans to offer services to local businesses.

"The town is excited to be working with Canadian Fiber Optics to have fiber installed to businesses and residents in High Prairie,” said High Prairie Mayor Brian Panasiuk. “This is a huge milestone as it will serve our community today and for generations to come with the high-speed connectivity needed to stay relevant in today's world. Having the speeds and bandwidth that fiber-optic cable offers will close the digital divide that exists between our town and the cities, plus open the door for future economic growth."

"The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the need for everyone to have access to reliable and affordable high-speed internet. In High Prairie, it has become apparent that good internet is not simply a want - but a need. We are thrilled and humbled to expand our network to High Prairie," added Co-founder and CEO of CFOC and NLF Arjen Kaput.

The deployment will be CFOC’s second in the province. The company also has agreed to build an FTTH network in Sturgeon County, starting with a pilot project in the southwest corner of the county. That initial roll out will include the hamlets of Villeneuve, Calahoo, and Riviere Que Barre; the Villeneuve Airport; and the Heritage and ProNorth Industrial Parks. CFOC also supplies services in the communities of Valleyview, Grande Cache, and Wembly. Service tiers include a symmetrical gigabit broadband offering.
