AT&T in public/private partnership with Martinsville, IN, for FTTH

Sept. 19, 2022
Planning and engineering work will begin once the contract is signed, and AT&T expects deployment will finish within 24 months from that point.

AT&T says that it expects to deploy its AT&T Fiber fiber to the home (FTTH) infrastructure in the City of Martinsville, IN, as part of a public/private partnership with the city government. AT&T will roll out FTTH to more than 5,000 customer locations under the $6.3 million project, contingent upon the signing of a final contract.

The partnership received the approvals of the Martinsville City Council and Board of Public Works during their respective meetings September 12. Planning and engineering work will begin once the contract is signed, and AT&T expects deployment will finish within 24 months from that point.

"After conversations with numerous providers, we've found a future-focused collaborator in AT&T and their 100% fiber network," said Kenny Costin, mayor, City of Martinsville. "We're grateful that AT&T has stepped up with a plan to ensure faster internet speeds for our city – for our teachers, students, parents and small businesses, in particular. We look forward to enjoying the benefits of AT&T Fiber for many years to come."

The service provider says it plans to offer broadband at symmetrical rates as high as 5 Gbps. "Bringing fast and reliable AT&T Fiber to communities like Martinsville shows how valuable public/private collaborations can be in closing the digital divide," said Bill Soards, president, AT&T Indiana. "It's been great working with the city's leadership on this project, which will bring our fastest long-term internet solution to the city's residents, business leaders, and educators."
