Google Fiber, which has emerged from a few years of hibernation in 2022 with new deployments in Iowa (see “Google Fiber to support open access conduit network project in West Des Moines, IA”), plans to enter five new markets this year, according to a blog post from CEO Dinni Jain. The states include Arizona, an initiative revealed last month (see "Google Fiber targets Mesa, AZ").
In addition to launching activities in Arizona, starting with Mesa, Jain wrote that Google Fiber is in discussions with local leaders in four other states:
- Colorado
- Nebraska
- Nevada
- Idaho.
“These states will be the main focus for our growth for the next several years, along with continued expansion in our current metro areas,” wrote Jain. However, he added that the company would be willing to work with municipalities interested in building their own networks, as Google Fiber has done in Huntsville, AL, and is doing currently in West De Moines, IA.
Google Fiber slowed its expansion plans in 2016 as the company reviewed the broadband market and its role in it (see "Google Fiber to 'pause' expansion; CEO steps down").
