TDS Telecom to bring more FTTH to Maine

The service provider says it will deploy FTTH to approximately 21,000 addresses in the state, including more than two dozen communities in Somerset and Franklin counties, beginning this year.

TDS Telecom says it plans to extend its fiber to the home (FTTH) footprint in Maine. The service provider says it will deploy FTTH to approximately 21,000 addresses in the state, including more than two dozen communities in Somerset and Franklin counties, beginning this year.

TDS has operated in Maine since 1971. The FTTH deployment will leverage both TDS’s own funds as well as money from the Alternative Connect America program. In addition to previously announced Hampden, municipalities covered in the deployment will include:

  • Cambridge
  • Carrabassett Valley
  • Concord Township
  • Coplin Plantation
  • Embden
  • Eustis/Stratton
  • Freeman
  • Harmony
  • Hartland
  • Highland Plantation
  • Kingfield
  • Lexington Township
  • Madrid
  • Mercer
  • New Portland
  • New Vineyard
  • Norridgewock
  • North Anson
  • Palmyra
  • Phillips
  • Ripley
  • Rome
  • Salem
  • Smithfield
  • Solon
  • St. Albans
  • Strong
  • Warren
  • Weld
  • Wellington
  • West Gardiner
  • Wyman Township.

Once deployed, the FTTH infrastructure will support the delivery of 2-Gbps internet service to residential customers. Other offerings will include TDS TV+ and phone service. Business customers will be able to opt for 10-Gbps dedicated connections as well as TDS’s hosted VoIP communications and TDS TV+.
