Frontier offering 2-Gbps broadband across entire fiber broadband network

Feb. 22, 2022
While some still wonder what residential customers will do with gigabit broadband, Frontier asserts that their customers will need 2 Gbps.

Frontier has selected “Twosday” (February 22, 2022 – or 2/22/22) to announce it is offering symmetrical 2-Gbps internet service across its entire fiber broadband network. To encourage take up, Frontier will provide its first 1,000 customers for the service with a 43-inch Amazon Fire TV and Logitech Webcam.

The symmetrical 2-Gbps package costs $149.99 per month and includes “next-gen” total home WiFi, Amazon Fire TV, webcam, a voice line at no additional charge. Activation, tech support, and multi-device security also are included at no additional charge.

“We’re thrilled to become the first and only major ISP to deliver network-wide 2-gig internet service, as we unleash the power of our fiber network,” said Nick Jeffery, president and CEO of Frontier. “Today is proof that Frontier is doing what customers want and cable can’t – bringing faster speeds and greater value to consumers as we build Gigabit America.”

While some still wonder what residential customers will do with gigabit broadband, Frontier asserts that their customers will need 2 Gbps because of the number of connected devices in the average household (Frontier estimates customers in its footprint have an average of 22 connected devices) and continue to work from home. These trends, alongside what Frontier called “long-term changes in education, healthcare, and the workplace” has led to a 6X increase in household broadband consumption and will continue pushing demand upward, according to the company.

“The last two years have fundamentally shifted how we use the internet and what customers expect from their connectivity partner,” said John Harrobin, executive vice president of consumer for Frontier. “Powered by thousands of miles of fiber, we are stepping up our game to bring unmatched 2-gig speeds to our entire fiber footprint and change the way customers experience the internet at home.”
