Lumos Fiber accelerates fiber broadband deployment in Virginia

Fiber broadband services provider Lumos says it will accelerate its fiber to the premises (FTTP) deployment schedule to bring fiber broadband to more than 12,000 homes and businesses in five Virginia communities by the end of 2022.

Fiber broadband services provider Lumos says it will accelerate its fiber to the premises (FTTP) deployment schedule to bring fiber broadband to more than 12,000 homes and businesses in five Virginia communities by the end of 2022. The FTTP roll out will target Waynesboro, Augusta County, Stuarts Draft, Crozet, and Bedford County, including parts of Lynchburg.

Lumos says that construction will begin “immediately” and should be completed by the fall of next year. Some communities will have access to services on the new FTTP infrastructure as early as March 2022.

"Our ambition is to bring gig-speed fiber internet to as many communities as possible across Virginia and beyond," Lumos CEO Diego Anderson said. "I'm thrilled to announce our 2022 plans to bring a future-proof network to even more of Virginia.

“Only a 100% fiber-optic network can provide virtually unlimited broadband capacity and synchronous download and upload speeds necessary for today’s ultra-high-bandwidth applications, including HD quality video meetings, virtual learning, latency-free VR gaming, e-commerce, and cloud computing,” Anderson concluded.

Lumos provides  fiber internet service, WiFi, voice, and streaming services to nearly 200,000 homes and businesses in Virginia (see "Lumos Networks to deploy ADTRAN 10G PON for business services delivery") and in North Carolina, the latter under the NorthState brand. The company spun out of Segra this past October.
