Kinetic to bring fiber internet to Rowan County, KY

The fiber to the home (FTTH) effort should see gigabit services become available by the end of this year, according to the company.

Windstream says it expects to be able to provide its Kinetic by Windstream gigabit broadband service to an additional 8,200 or more residents of Rowan County, KY, thanks to a new fiber build. The fiber to the home (FTTH) effort should see gigabit services become available by the end of this year, according to the company.

During a ceremony to mark the initiative, representatives of Windstream and the county revealed that they have partnered to apply to the Kentucky Broadband Deployment Fund to enable an expansion of the FTTH build to an additional 4,169 homes as well.

“Now more than ever, access to reliable, high-speed broadband is essential for commerce, education, telehealth, remote work, and overall connectivity,” said Tony Thomas, president and CEO of Windstream. “Kinetic has been delivering broadband service to Rowan County and communities across Kentucky for years, and our customers know they can count on us as a trusted partner to increase economic opportunity and enhance quality of life.”

The FTTH deployment in Rowan County is part of a $2 billion, multi-year construction initiative Kinetic has launched across its 18-state footprint. The company says it “either has or will have fiber” in every county it serves in Kentucky “over the next couple of years.”
