The Discovery Semiconductors Inc. 1:1 Clock & Data Recovery (CDR) unit, included in the Lab Buddy, conveniently interfaces with the Bit Error Rate (BER) test equipment and provides a Receive, Reshape, & Retime (3R) solution, which is especially important for transmission experiments. This state-of-the-art instrument contains several features to enhance its flexibility. The CDR has been configured for variable data rate operation ranging from 9.95 Gb/s to 11.1 Gb/s, as determined by the user's reference clock that is externally supplied to the Lab Buddy through the rear panel. The CDR can be operated at sub-rates of /2, /4, /8 & /16 over the full rate operating range listed above. Additionally, the CDR can be utilized as a Clock Multiplying Unit (CMU) where a sub-rate clock can be multiplied up to 9.95 GHz to 11.1 GHz.The CDR can be factory configured to operate with an internal reference clock over two selectable rates such as 9.953 Gbps & 10.709 Gbps. The Lab Buddy is powered from a power supply module supplied by Discovery Semiconductors, Inc. It provides a regulated DC voltage to the Lab Buddy. The Lab Buddy eliminates the possibility of any accidental damage to the CDR unit. With Discovery's turn-key CDR solution more time can be devoted to testing, instead of setting up your test station!
