Germany’s Hetzner Online taps Infinera for data center interconnect

Hetzner Online will now be able to offer 400 Gigabit Ethernet (400GbE) services via its nationwide network.

Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) and Hetzner Online have revealed the German web hosting services supplier and data center operator has increased its data center interconnect capabilities by deploying Infinera’s ICE6 coherent transmission technology. Hetzner Online will now be able to offer 400 Gigabit Ethernet (400GbE) services via its nationwide network.

The new data center interconnect capabilities come via Infinera’s GX Series Compact Modular Platform. Hetzner Online doubled the capacity of its flex-grid backbone network with the roll out of the ICE6; the service provider now can support three 400GbE service streams between any two points in its network using a single ICE6 optical engine support two 600-Gbps wavelengths.

Founded in 1997, Hetzner Online serves private and business customers via its network as well as data centers in Nuremberg and Falkenstein in Germany, in Helsinki, Finland, and a new location in Ashburn, VA.
