PIT Chile deploys PacketLight PL-2000T for data center interconnect

In addition to a system that could support 200-Gbps wavelengths, PIT Chile also needed the optical transport technology to be easily self-installed due to the limitations imposed by the current COVID-19 pandemic.

PacketLight Networks says it supplied its PL-2000T transponder to PIT Chile, an internet exchange point (IXP) in that country, to support data center interconnect (DCI) between a pair of PIT Chile data centers in Santiago.

PIT Chile support the IXP requirements of such major CDNs as Facebook, Fastly, Google, and Microsoft as well as local Chilean ISPs. It required an optical transport platform capable of support 200-Gbps wavelengths between data centers in the El Bosque and Santa Marta sections of Santiago on three “nodes” of dark fiber, according to PacketLight. It also needed the optical transport technology to be easily self-installed due to the limitations imposed by the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The PL-2000T met these requirements, PacketLight asserts. PIT Chile technicians were able to leverage the system’s graphical user interface (GUI) for remote configuration, management and monitoring to accomplish the installations in minutes with minimal support from PacketLight’s team, the technology vendor says.
