HGC, AMS-IX partner to start internet exchange in Manila

March 28, 2023
The new IX is the sixth the two companies have founded and operated together.

HGC Global Communications Ltd. and Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) have announced creation of an internet exchange (IX) in Manila, the Philippines. The new IX is the sixth the two companies have founded and operated together.

The new IX will benefit from connections via locally owned fiber infrastructure. Target clients include data centers; OTT, content, gaming, and cloud service providers; MNOs; and hyperscalers.

“We are excited to launch a new internet exchange in the Philippines with a partner with whom we have such a strong and longstanding partnership,” commented Peter van Burgel, CEO of AMS-IX. “The people at HGC share our values, motivation, and commitment to bring affordable, high-quality Internet to all corners of the world. We are looking forward to jointly engage the local Internet community and support the development of the Internet in the Philippines.”

The two companies announced the new Manila IX during an event celebrating the 10th anniversary of the founding of AMS-IX Hong Kong. As part of their relationship HGC and AMS-IX say they have “successfully launched and fostered” four IXs in Hong Kong, Singapore, Chicago and the Bay Area, with AMS-IX Bangkok to go live later this year.

“We are honored and pleased to announce a tenable milestone of our cooperation with AMS-IX,” said Ravindran Mahalingam, senior vice president, international business at HGC. “HGC is ready to extend IX services as part of our edge ecosystem [EdgeX by HGC]. We have faith to keep on investing in Hong Kong as a digital hub and further expand our coverage to the region.”
