DataBank preps opening of SLC6, its sixth data center in Salt Lake City area

Enterprise-class colocation, connectivity, and managed services provider DataBank says it will soon open its sixth data center in the area around Salt Lake City, UT. The aptly named SLC6 will have its grand opening celebrated on November 15, 2022.

SLC6 is located within DataBank’s Granite Point Campus between downtown Salt Lake City and Utah’s “Silicon Slopes” in Bluffdale. The 23-acre campus connects to DataBank’s off-campus SLC1 data center and carrier hotel by direct fiber link. The new 171,000 square-foot facility eventually will add 100,000 square feet of raised flooring to DataBank’s footprint in the area. The facility will offer 50,000 square feet of this capacity when it opens. SLC6 will have two new data halls, expected to open in October of this year. Approximately 11 MW of power will be available upon opening, with another 11 MW to come online later.

The opening of SLC6 comes approximately a year after DataBank expanded SLC5, around the time the company broke ground on the new data center (see "DataBank expands capacity of Salt Lake City’s SLC5 Data Center"). “Utah is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing tech hubs in the U.S.,” said Tony Qorri, DataBank’s vice president of construction. “The state’s prime real estate, low cost of living, and deep technology talent pool, make it an ideal location for start-ups. Additionally, its internet speeds are among the fastest in the nation, which is attractive to start-ups as well as enterprises.

“Bringing this additional capacity to the Silicon Slopes deepens our roots in the region,” added Qorri. “This aligns well with DataBank’s growth strategy and our dedication to providing our customers with world-class IT infrastructure.”
