Cologix reveals Columbus, OH, data center campus expansion plans

March 9, 2021
The company says it has future plans to deploy more than 200 MW of total capacity in the Columbus market.

Interconnect and edge data center services supplier Cologix has announced plans to significantly expand the capabilities of its data center campus in Columbus, OH. The plans include the construction of a new facility, COL4, that will raise capacity in Columbus to approximately 70 MW. The company says it has future plans to deploy more than 200 MW of total capacity in the Columbus market as well. It also says it has added a direct onramp to Google Cloud at its COL2 and COL3 facilities and expects to add compute capacity at COL3 (see "Cologix 160,000 square-foot data center in Columbus is ready for service").

COL4 will be a 40-MW hyperscale edge data center designed to meet cloud infrastructure requirements, Cologix says. The new carrier-neutral facility will offer more than 250,000 square feet of total space, including approximately 117,000 square feet of raised floor space across six data center halls. COL4 will feature a Tier III design and offer a concurrently maintainable design with 2N power and N+1 cooling. In addition, the facility will include diverse meet-me-rooms (MMRs).

Cologix adds it plans to offer preconstructed, completely diverse, scalable, and redundant fiber paths between COL4 and its COL1, COL2, and COL3 facilities, with direct access to the Google and AWS cloud onramps as well as OhioIX. The Columbus campus is located at the corner of Alta View Blvd. and Worthington Wood Blvd.

"We have seen a surge in demand for our existing facilities that includes a 32-MW hyperscale edge facility built less than 2 years ago,” commented Cologix CEO Bill Fathers. “In response to accelerated demand of cloud connectivity at the edge, Columbus is a priority to expand our hyperscale edge footprint. The market has been bolstered by Google Cloud, AWS, and Facebook deploying major footprints in the area."
