H5 Data Centers buys seven data centers from vXchnge

Feb. 1, 2022
The seven data centers combine to provide more than 250,000 square feet of data center space and more than 150 unique customers.

Edge data center and carrier hotel provider H5 Data Centers says it has bought a data center in each of Nashville, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Portland, Secaucus (New Jersey), St. Louis, and St. Paul from vXchnge. The seven data centers combine to provide more than 250,000 square feet of data center space and more than 150 unique customers, who include communications carriers, Fortune 500 companies, content distribution networks, and cloud service providers.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"The demand for edge data center space continues to grow,” said Josh Simms, founder and CEO of H5 Data Centers. “Acquiring this vXchnge portfolio of data centers gives H5 Data Centers an opportunity to expand our portfolio to 20 markets, deepen relationships with customers, and continue to build and grow interconnected digital ecosystems.”

Privately owned H5 Data Centers has more than 3 million square feet of data center space under management. With the acquisition, it now operates 22 data centers in 20 markets. This most recent deal follows the purchase of a facility in Cincinnati, OH, this past December (see “H5 Data Centers buys Cincinnati’s 925 Dalton Avenue data center”).

The vXchnge website still lists data centers in the seven locations, as well as one in Raleigh-Durham, NC. The Tampa-based company sold a facility in Austin, TX, to Elemental Critical last fall. Prior to that, it sold a data center campus in Santa Clara to Cologix in April 2021.
