April 7, 2005 Milan, Italy, Petah Tikva, Israel, and Richardson, TX -- Tiscali International Network, the carrier arm of Tiscali S.p.A., has chosen ECI Telecom's Enstara platform to upgrade its international IP/MPLS backbone. Announcement of the selction was made today by ECI, a global provider of advanced telecommunications products, and their partner, Chiaro Networks, the developer of the infrastructure-class IP/MPLS platform.
The carrier's IP/MPLS network infrastructure spans from the Czech Republic to the west coast of the United States, and from Norway to Spain and Greece. The global network consists of approximately 120 locations in more than 15 European countries and in the United States. According to a press release, the platform's deployment is part of a network capacity upgrade driven by broadband traffic growth.
"We have chosen the Enstara platform because of its excellent quality and cost proposition, and we are confident it will prove to be a high-performing and scalable solution," comments Paolo Susnik, Tiscali International Network's CEO.
According to the carrier, the Enstara IP/MPLS router completed extensive laboratory and production-network validation including interoperability of routing protocols in a multi-vendor network, and was selected based on its high availability, multi-chassis architecture, and scalability in support of new services and network growth.
"Tiscali International's selection of the Enstara platform is a leading indicator of the value providers are now placing on five-nines availability, scalability, and enhanced L2/L3 VPN functionality," notes Ken Lewis, Chiaro's CEO.
The platform's selection closely follows a strategic partnership agreement between ECI Telecom and Chiaro, announced in December 2004. The agreement allows ECI to exclusively distribute Chiaro's IP/MPLS platform worldwide, while also taking part in Chiaro's funding.
"That a major pan-European carrier like Tiscali International Network has chosen the Enstara platform is a signal that ECI-Chiaro's new partnership is already paying dividends," concludes Jennifer Liscom principal analyst of the Gartner Group.
