Dr. Thomas Dobbertin named TRUMPF Photonic Components managing director
Dr. Thomas Dobbertin has been named managing director of TRUMPF subsidiary TRUMPF Photonic Components, effective July 17, 2023. Dobbertin will replace Dr. Berthold Schmidt, who will move to CTO and member of the managing board for TRUMPF SE + Co. KG.
The 48-year-old Dobbertin will arrive at TRUMPF Photonic Components from Nanofilm Technology International, a Singapore-based provider of nanotechnology products. His career includes the role of general manager for the optical sensor technology business units at semiconductor manufacturer ams AG in Singapore. He also previously led the laser components business at OSRAM Opto Semiconductor GmbH in Germany.
Dobbertin will be charged with the further expansion of the VCSEL and photonics business and expertise at TRUMPF Photonic Components. The unit has been part of the TRUMPF Group since 2019 and supplies VCSEL and photodiode products for consumer electronics, data communications, automotive, industrial sensors, and heating systems (see, for example, "TRUMPF Photonic Components plans 56G VCSEL and photodiode demo at ECOC 2021").
