AEPONYX adds $10 million in latest funding round

The money will go toward applying the company’s Silicon Nitride based integrated photonics and MEMS expertise to 5G network applications.

Montreal-based optical technology developer AEPONYX says it has closed $10 million in new funding. The round included previous investors Fonds Ecofuel, BDC, and Fonds Innovexport as well as newcomer Investissement Québec. The money will go toward applying the company’s Silicon Nitride based integrated photonics and MEMS expertise to 5G network applications.

AEPONYX was founded in 2013 and initially focused its work on WDM-PON applications as well as tunable transceivers for NG-PON2 networks (see, for example, AEPONYX receives funding for micro-optical switch chip development, production and AEPONYX to launch C-Band 10G WDM-PON at OFC 2015). The company had previously attracted $30 million of investment and with this new round appears intent on expanding its addressable market.
