Viavi Solutions Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAV) says it has moved its corporate headquarters from San Jose, CA, to Arizona. The headquarters staff has relocated to temporary offices in Scottsdale, AZ, while construction begins on a new facility in Chandler that will also offer manufacturing resources for VIAVI’s Optical Security and Performance Products (OSP) segment. The company says it expects that at least 100 employees will be working at the new facility by 2022.
The test, monitoring, and assurance technology vendor says it will retain its current offices in San Jose as a functional center of excellence and sales office. The company had established its headquarters in San Jose when it was created by the splitting of JDSU into two new companies (see "Viavi Solutions, Lumentum begin life as JDSU is no more").
VIAVI says the move to Arizona comes as increasing demand for its OSP offerings led to thoughts of manufacturing capacity expansion as well as the creation of redundant capabilities. In exploring the Chandler area for this purpose, company leadership decided that Arizona was “business-friendly, offering a high quality of life at reasonable cost, and providing a strong base of talent,” in the words of its press release that announced the move. Chandler is part of Arizona’s “Optics Valley,” and VIAVI is an Industrial Affiliate at the University of Arizona Wyant College of Optical Sciences, two other points in the region’s favor.

VIAVI’s OSP segment includes products for anti-counterfeiting, consumer and industrial, government, automotive, and other markets. The offerings include 3D sensing optical filters as well as products for guidance systems, laser eye protection and night vision systems.
