Coherent Solutions rebrands as Quantifi Photonics as it expands into new markets

Coherent Solutions, the New Zealand based company that has established itself as a supplier of coherent transmission test instruments as well as other platforms, has rebranded as it launches into new areas of photonics test. The company will now be known as Quantifi Photonics.

“Our new name, Quantifi Photonics, reflects our vision of transforming the world of photonics test and measurement. As optical communication technologies evolve, customers are asking for new solutions for challenges that are complex, time consuming, and costly to solve,” explained Andy Stevens, CEO of Quantifi Photonics. The company cited 5G, autonomous vehicles, secure communications, and satellite internet networks as potential areas that could benefit from new integrated photonic test equipment.

Founded in 2012 as Southern Photonics (the company rebranded the following year), Coherent Solutions has developed a range of test equipment for coherent transmission evaluation (see, for example, Coherent Solutions debuts IQTransmitter with 40 GHz RF bandwidth and Coherent Solutions offers IQABC automatic bias controller for IQ-modulators). It also developed instruments in other areas of optical communications testing (see Coherent Solutions, MultiLane, National Instruments show optical transceiver test on PXI platform at ECOC 2018 and "Coherent Solutions adds modules for MTP optical test platform"). The company often partnered with other test equipment vendors to fill holes in those vendors’ portfolios (see, for example, Coherent Solutions, Teledyne LeCroy pair for new optical modulation analyzer offerings).

“We’re incredibly proud of the reputation we established for Coherent Solutions and look forward to continue working with companies that are developing tomorrow’s photonics technologies,” added Stevens. “While our name has changed, our excitement about developing innovative test and measurement solutions to help our customers succeed is stronger than ever.”

The company will remain active in coherent transmission testing, having recently signed an exclusive partnership with Tektronix Inc. to supply optical modulation analyzers. Quantifi says that it also plans to release a PAM4 BERT module for the PXI platform in Q4 2020.
