Telia makes significant changes to senior leadership team
Stockholm-based international communications services provider Telia Co. has announced three changes to its senior executive team at the senior vice president level. The changes come after Allison Kirkby became president and CEO last month and set the stage for what the company called “a renewed Nordics and Baltics strategy.” The changes will see four senior vice presidents leave the company, to be replaced by two external hires and an internal promotion.
The new players include:
- Markus Messerer, who will become senior vice president, chief of strategy, innovation and head of global business. Messerer will join the company during the fourth quarter from his current position as CEO of Alltron AG, Swiss IT group Competec's B2B business. Messerer previously was head of corporate Strategy at Swisscom.
- Rachel Samrén will become senior vice president, chief external affairs, governance and trust officer. She also will join Telia during the fourth quarter of this year. Samrén currently is executive vice president, chief external affairs officer and member of the group executive team of Millicom.
- Dan Strömberg, current CEO of Telia Lithuania will add senior vice president, head of LED (Lithuania, Estonia and Denmark) to his responsibilities beginning August 1, 2020. Strömberg has held various senior manager positions at Telia since the late 1990s.
The moves leave current Telia employees Ingrid Stenmark senior vice president, head of CEO Office; Åsa Jamal, senior vice president, head of group communications; and Emil Nilsson senior vice president, head of LED, without jobs and they will leave the company. Additionally, Senior Vice President, Head of Telia Global Peter Borsos will temporarily take on oversight of group communications until implementation of the new organization and Messerer and Samrén are onboard. At that point, Borsos also will leave the company, an event expected to take place during the fourth quarter of 2020.
“As we prepare to renew Telia’s purpose and strategy, I am delighted that Markus, Rachel, and Dan will join our Group Executive Management team. Each of them are [sic] experienced and outstanding leaders, who will be excellent role models of the Telia values, and bring a broad range of sector knowledge and hands-on operational experiences from our industry, and beyond. I have every confidence that these changes will help us accelerate our transformation journey and establish a new era of success for Telia,” said Kirkby.
“I also want to give my huge and heartfelt thanks to Ingrid Stenmark, Peter Borsos, Emil Nilsson, and Åsa Jamal, who all have been valuable members of Telia Company’s Group Executive Management for many years, and have contributed significantly to the company,” Kirkby added.
