Corning unveils space-saving Evolv hardened connectivity line for 5G networks

Corning Inc. (NYSE: GLW) has introduced its line of Evolv Hardened Connectivity Solutions with Pushlok Technology. The portfolio offers miniaturized options to enable more fiber connections in tight spaces, particularly in 5G mobile network support applications.

Technicians can deploy the Evolv hardened terminals the ground, on a pole or facade, or on a strand. Key to the Evolv line is the Pushlok connector, which Corning touts as half the size of existing offerings such as the OptiTap. The single-fiber connector leverages an SC APC compatible ferrule and is backward compatible with the company’s threaded OptiTap ports with a field-installed adapter and can also be converted for use with standard SC APC patch panels. The reduced size enables connectivity systems that are up to 4X smaller than alternatives, Corning asserts. The reduce physical dimensions lower costs by as much as $500 and accelerate infrastructure deployments, the company adds. The Evolv line supports “one-handed” drop installation with tactile and audible feedback as well.
