Viavi Solutions (NASDAQ: VIAV) has added a virtualized Ethernet test probe to its EtherASSURE service assurance portfolio. The virtualized probe aims to assist carriers with the evolution toward network functions virtualization (NFV) and 5G mobile networks.
NFV offers challenges to operators in that functions – and therefore problems – can reside in multiple parts of the network as well as change their location. The virtualized probe is designed to assist with testing these virtual network functions, particularly in mobile networks that are moving to 5G. The new offering enables operators to deploy test functions more flexibly to support the diversity of network endpoints that are likely to be found in 5G networks, including backhaul, Viavi says.
The EtherASSURE virtualized Ethernet test-head/probe can be used for test, troubleshooting, and performance monitoring applications. It is based on the purpose-built hardware version of the Viavi QT600-10, which enables operators to more easily deploy services on industry-standard x86 server platforms, according to the test and measurement technology company.
Viavi says that national carriers in North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia have been conducting, or plan to conduct, trials of the virtual Ethernet test probe.
