Viavi Solutions Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAV), formerly JDSU, has released GigaStor Software Edition, a software-defined networking (SDN) friendly platform for managing performance and user experience in virtual and cloud environments. The software configurations enable the capture and retention of 250 GB or 1 TB of continuous traffic to disk for performance and forensic analysis.

GigaStor Software captures packet-data from within the virtual switching infrastructure without the need to push data into the physical environment. Rather than spending hours replicating a network error to find its cause, engineers can use the packet-data the Gigastor Software has captured, Viavi explains. Engineers can see in real time and historically how users are experiencing applications and services within the virtual environment, according to the company.

GigaStor Software and appliances enable network teams to monitor and analyze all virtual data center traffic, whether within a VMware ESX host or on 10 and 40 Gigabit Ethernet links, Viavi says. GigaStor Software can be deployed in any virtual host for the long-term collection and saving of packet-level data, which it can decode, analyze, and display, Viavi adds.

The product is available for purchase.
